This elegant turntable features a servo-controlled direct-drive motor, regulated by a high-precision single-chip integrated circuit. This motor incorporates all the advanced design characteristics of Technics' fine DD motors and is controlled by the unique BFG system, which uses the back electromotive force induced by the rotor in the stator field coils to monitor the platter speed.

The SL-1800's frequency generator uses the obtained waveform as a reference, comparing it to the standard calibration frequency of the reference oscillator.

This allows for instantaneous speed correction signals to be sent whenever necessary, adjusting the motor drive current to maintain precise platter speed.
