Studer A726

The design of the A726 combines proven low-distortion reception technologies with digital computer software. This combination significantly expands functional possibilities. However, centralized control via serial command and data bus connections greatly simplifies wiring, leading to increased reliability.

The design of the A726 FM tuner is based on the simplest possible operation of station buttons. All secondary control elements for programming are visually separated.

Reducing the main control elements to a narrow row with 20 station buttons, two scan buttons, and a standby/on button does not impose any limitations—on the contrary. Entirely new possibilities are integrated into the practical and simple button control. This means that for each stored station frequency, not only the station abbreviation but also all specific operating parameters can be saved.

Whenever you select a station button, the individual functions you previously selected are generated. Settings are entered directly using function keys; both the station frequency and name can be easily input using the alphanumeric station keyboard. All stored data for 20 different station frequencies is retained without a backup battery, even in the event of a power failure.

True to electronic precision, the A726's displays also have the characteristics of a measuring instrument. Analog meters provide precise information about signal strength and channel center; the received signal is displayed logarithmically over an extremely wide range.

The 7-character alphanumeric LCD screen displays either the reception frequency, the station’s abbreviation, or the button number (1 ... 20). At the same time, the display provides information on important functional states such as recording, stereo mode, muting, and antenna rotor movement (optional accessory).

One of the fundamental advantages of digital tuning with frequency synthesizers is its high and consistent precision, regardless of input type. The very high accuracy is determined solely by the 4 MHz reference quartz. With a maximum resolution of 12.5 kHz, the so-called channel grid tuning operates with extreme precision, covering all special channels without any tuning errors!

Operation with a simple button press remains both simple and universal. Manual tuning can be done in steps of 50 or 12.5 kHz; direct digital input with automatic addition of 12.5 and 25 kHz steps is also possible. Automatic tuning works in both search directions or via the two station buttons to access stored frequencies (also with 12.5 kHz resolution). Finally, stored stations can be easily recalled in both search directions with a single button press (Memory Scan).
