STAX SRA-12S & Headphone SR-Σ
The Stax SRA-12S is a preamplifier combined with a dedicated Stax headphone amplifier. It operates in Class A, is DC-coupled, and uses FETs in the first amplification stage and four 2SC1167 bipolar transistors in the output stage.
In addition to the high-voltage bias and audio output specific to Stax electrostatic headphones, it features a switchable +20 dB intermediate amplifier, allowing it to operate with optimal gain at all times.
Its output power amplifier is designed to drive Stax headphones; to power loudspeakers, a separate power amplifier connected to its preamp outputs is required.
Sold with the exceptional, fully overhauled Stax SR-Σ panoramic electrostatic collector headphone—a legendary piece in the STAX listening experience. A mind-blowing headphone experience that every audiophile should hear at least once in their lifetime.
Inputs:
MAG PU: Magnetic phono cartridge, RIAA (1mV, 47k Ohms)
COND PU: Condenser phono cartridge, flat standard line level (non-equalized) (100 mV, 100 k Ohms), to be powered by an external Stax condenser phono equalizer preamp such as the Stax ECP-1.
TUNER: Standard line level (100 mV, 100 k Ohms)
AUX 1: Standard line level (100 mV, 100 k Ohms)
AUX 2: Standard line level (100 mV, 100 k Ohms)
There is also a full tape monitor loop (100 mV, 100 k Ohms), which can be used for a tape recorder or digital recorder, or as a sixth input, or as an external processor loop.
Frequency response: DC rated – 1 MHz +0, -3 dB
Distortion: Rated THD of 0.05% at 1 kHz at full power output.
Rated intermodulation distortion of 0.05% at 250 Hz/8 kHz at 4:1 at full output.
Outputs: 2 headphone outputs with 230 V bias (standard), connected in parallel; 2 preamp outputs, labeled 1 and 2.
Dimensions: 177 W x 110 H x 304 D mm
