Nakamichi ZX-9
The ZX-9, an enhanced version of the famous ZX-7 tape recorder, was introduced by Nakamichi in 1982. It features manual calibration controls, including adjustable azimuth and recording bias, and a durable tape transport system.
Nakamichi is the iconic Japanese brand known for designing and manufacturing equipment dedicated to cassette playback, with a legacy of high-end devices that have contributed to its reputation. Models like the ZX-1000, ZX-700, the Dragon, ZX-7, and ZX-9 are still highly sought after by cassette enthusiasts.
The true advantage of the ZX-9 is its manual calibration on each cassette, allowing for extremely precise alignment.
The ZX-9 is equipped with a dual capstan system with direct drive, powered by two constant torque linear motors with PLL quartz servo control. This motor nearly eliminates all wow and flutter problems, delivering performance that makes competitors envious.
Its sound quality is exceptional, covering all ranges with precision and an incomparable warmth of reproduction. For many, the Nakamichi ZX-9 is the ultimate reference in cassette playback.
This high-end player has received all the attention in terms of restoration. The mechanics were disassembled, cleaned, the shafts greased, a new belt installed, and a complete recap of the power supply and all major capacitors was carried out using Nichicon Gold components.
The calibration was performed using the dedicated Nakamichi test tapes.
