Hozan Yamamoto - "銀界 Ginkai"
Ginkai (literally “silver world”) is a landmark album by shakuhachi master Hōzan Yamamoto. On this recording, he is joined by a jazz trio featuring Masabumi Kikuchi on piano, Hiroshi Murakami on drums, and Gary Peacock on bass. Centered on the traditional Japanese bamboo flute, the album offers a deeply immersive soundscape inspired by nature, silence, and Zen aesthetics.
The music evokes a snowy landscape—still, suspended in time—with minimalist and profoundly spiritual compositions. Each note reflects the Japanese art of emptiness and balance, creating an atmosphere of absolute serenity.
An essential album for lovers of traditional Japanese music, meditative sound, or introspective sonic landscapes.
This is a limited 1974 reissue on Fontana, in excellent condition apart from a small tear on the top right corner of the sleeve.
