Darker and heavier than its predecessors, it blends grunge, metal, and acoustic elements with a suffocating atmosphere, reflecting the band’s internal tensions and Layne Staley’s struggles with addiction. Jerry Cantrell’s massive riffs and the haunting vocal harmonies take center stage, especially on tracks like “Grind,” “Heaven Beside You,” “Again,” and “Over Now.”
